In Australia the Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations require that manufacturers, importers and suppliers of chemicals used in the workplace correctly label their products. Currently the National Code of Practice for the Labeling of Workplace Substances (NOHSC) 2012 sets out the guidelines for labels until Dec 31, 2016. After Dec 31, 2016 new GHS guidelines will become mandatory. However, the GHS guidelines may currently be used as an alternative to NOHSC guidelines.
For additional regulations please refer to the following:
Agriculture and Veterinary Chemicals
Consumer and Domestic Chemicals (Poisons)
Dangerous Goods during Land Transport
For workplace chemicals, the Model code of practice – Labeling Workplace Hazardous Chemicals is to be used for chemicals that have been classified according the UN GHS standards. This code will become mandatory after December 31, 2016.
