Primary Languages:
Secondary Languages:
National Regulations Governing SDSs/MSDSs:

In the United States the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Hazard Communication Standard “U.S. DOL, OSHA, 29 CFR 1910.1200” sets out the regulations that govern the authoring of SDS’s. For more information please refer to the OSHA Brief – Hazard Communication Standard: Safety Data Sheets.

Additional Regulations:

California Proposition 65 “Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986” requires that you determine whether any of the hazardous chemicals in a product formula are subject to Proposition 65 requirements.

GHS Implementation Status:

The Hazard Communication Standard (Hazcom 2012) brought the US more in line with the UN GHS based system. The transition period from 2013 to 2016 for all chemical manufacturers, importers, distributors and all employers to conform to the new standard has now passed. As of June 1st, 2016, everyone must comply with the modified provisions of the final rule.

Multi-Jurisdiction SDS/MSDS Options:

A US SDS may be combined with Canadian regulations. Mexico has implemented GHS, it is not recommended to combine with US documents
