Oehha selects Coumarin for Assessment

California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (Oehha) has selected coumarin for carcinogenicity assessment. 

Coumarin, commonly used as a fragrance ingredient, has been referred to the substances Carcinogen Identification Committee (CIC) to give opinions on whether the substance has been linked with cancer.

The board is requesting the public to provide information that is relevant to the assessment of the substance’s carcinogenicity.

This information includes:

  • data such as pharmacokinetics, biomarkers and effects on biochemical and physiological processes in humans.
  • genotoxicity testing
  • cancer bioassays and epidemiological studies

 The public may submit this information until April 17.
