Out of 33 363 dossiers submitted by the final REACH registration deadline on 31 May 2018, 32 515 dossiers have been granted registration numbers covering 10 708 different chemicals. The remaining dossiers are still lacking information and European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) is waiting for them to be updated before registration numbers will be granted.

In 477 cases, the companies faced exceptional circumstances as defined by the Directors’ Contact Group and were granted an extension for submitting the missing information. About 1% of REACH 2018 dossiers have been rejected so far.

ECHA has already published the non-confidential data from 99.7% of completed registrations and plans to publish the remainder once they have been processed.

EU Companies can only manufacture or import hazardous substances at quantities greater than 1 tonne per year once they have received a registration number from ECHA. In 2019, an EU wide enforcement project called REF-7 will focus on checking registration obligations of European companies.
