The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has proposed a rule that would make certain plastics exempt in children’s toys from third-party phthalate testing.

Six phthalates under the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act are prohibited in concentrations that are above 0.1% in accessible parts of various children’s products.

These substances include:

    • DEHP

    • BBP

    • DBP

    • DIDP

    • DINP

    • DnOP

Third-party testing must be conducted before products containing these substances are placed on the market.

Comments on the proposed ruling will be accepted until the 31st of September.
