Australia’s newest Industrial Chemical Law was initially scheduled to be implemented on July 1, 2019. However, due to Senate delays, debates have yet to be held regarding the new legislation, which is now expected to come into force July 1, 2020. This new law, which includes six bills would replace the current chemical agency NICNAS with the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS). Additionally, the ban on cosmetic testing on animals which is part of the new law has also been postponed. Moreover, once this law has passed, the government intends to implement the following portions of the legislation as soon as possible:

–          Remove annual reporting requirements for lower risk chemicals to help reduce regulatory burden

–          Reform the definition and regulatory treatment of polymers
