Chemical Labeling and SDS Requirements in Slovakia
Slovakia applies the EU REACH and CLP framework for chemical hazard communication. Hazardous substances and mixtures supplied in Slovakia must be classified and labelled under CLP and supported by SDSs prepared under REACH Annex II, as amended by Commission Regulation (EU) 2020/878. The Slovak Ministry of Economy provides national information resources for REACH and SDS obligations.
SDS Requirements
SDSs supplied in Slovakia must follow the REACH Annex II 16-section format and comply with Regulation (EU) 2020/878. SDSs should be provided in Slovak for recipients in Slovakia and must be consistent with the CLP classification and label. Suppliers should update SDSs promptly when new hazard, safety, authorization, restriction, or risk-management information becomes available and communicate revisions to customers where required.
Consumer Label Requirements
Hazardous consumer chemical labels in Slovakia must comply with CLP and be presented in Slovak. Required label elements include product identifier, supplier details, hazard pictograms, signal word, hazard statements, precautionary statements, and supplemental information where applicable. Additional EU or Slovak rules may apply for biocides, detergents, cosmetics, plant protection products, aerosols, and other product-specific categories. In-scope hazardous mixtures may require UFI labelling and poison-centre notification.
Workplace Label Requirements
Workplace labels should be consistent with CLP classification and with the Slovak SDS. Employers should keep labels legible, ensure decanted or workplace containers are identified, and provide workers with hazard information, safe-use instructions, personal protective measures, storage requirements, and emergency procedures. Chemical risk assessment and occupational safety duties should be considered alongside REACH and CLP obligations.
