Eurasian chemical regulation goes back to the drawing board

The Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) has abandoned efforts to reach an agreement on its chemical safety package, which is likely to be redrawn in national legislatures.

 

In a meeting in Moscow, at the end of March, the five EEU member states failed to agree on one of the three technical legislations in the package, the safety of chemical products legislation, Sergeij Cyplenkov of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), the governing body of the EEU, told Chemical Watch.

 

Following lengthy delays, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia approved the other two regulations in the package: safety of paints and lacquers, and of synthetic detergents, which are expected to be adopted by the EEC this year.
