Chemical Labeling and SDS Requirements in Turkey
Turkey has adopted GHS-aligned chemical classification and labelling through the SEA Regulation on Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures, which is broadly aligned with EU CLP, and regulates registration and SDS obligations through KKDIK, Turkey’s REACH-like chemicals regulation. Suppliers should confirm Turkish-language SDS and label requirements, SEA classification, KKDIK obligations, and any product-specific rules before placing chemicals on the Turkish market.
SDS Requirements
SDSs in Turkey must be prepared in Turkish and aligned with KKDIK and the national SDS requirements. The SDS should use the 16-section structure, be consistent with the SEA classification and label, and include substance/mixture identity, hazards, composition, first aid, firefighting, accidental release, handling/storage, exposure controls, physical and chemical properties, toxicological and ecological information, disposal, transport, regulatory information, and other required content. SDSs should be updated when classification, risk management, authorisation, restriction, or other relevant safety information changes.
Consumer Label Requirements
Consumer chemical products in Turkey generally require SEA-compliant classification, labelling, and packaging when hazardous, with Turkish-language hazard communication. Labels may require product identifiers, supplier information, nominal quantity where applicable, hazard pictograms, signal word, hazard and precautionary statements, and supplemental information. Biocides, detergents, cosmetics, pesticides, medical products, and other regulated product groups may have additional label and authorization requirements.
Workplace Label Requirements
Workplace labels for hazardous chemicals in Turkey should follow the SEA Regulation and remain consistent with the SDS. Labels should provide Turkish-language hazard information including pictograms, signal word, hazard statements, precautionary statements, product identifier, and supplier details. Employers should maintain SDS access and ensure secondary containers and workplace storage remain clearly identified.
