Thailand implements GHS-based hazard communication for hazardous substances through notifications under the Hazardous Substance Act and competent authorities such as the Ministry of Industry, Department of Industrial Works, and Thai Food and Drug Administration depending on the product. Suppliers should confirm whether the product is a hazardous substance and whether Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Public Health, agricultural, transport, or other sector-specific rules apply.
SDS Requirements
SDSs for hazardous substances in Thailand should follow the Thai GHS hazard classification and communication requirements. For regulated hazardous substances, registration or permission dossiers may require an SDS with GHS classification. SDSs should be consistent with the label and provide the standard chemical identification, hazard, handling, exposure control, emergency, disposal, transport, and regulatory information needed by downstream users.
Consumer Label Requirements
Consumer chemical products in Thailand may be regulated by the Thai FDA, Department of Industrial Works, Department of Agriculture, or other competent authority depending on product type. Labels may need Thai-language product identity, registration or notification details, hazard classification, pictograms or warnings, ingredients, use directions, storage, disposal, manufacturer/importer information, and product-specific statutory statements. Consumer product labels should not be treated as identical to workplace labels without checking the product category.
Workplace Label Requirements
Workplace labels for hazardous substances should communicate Thai GHS hazards and remain consistent with the SDS. Labels should include product identification, hazard pictograms, signal word, hazard statements, precautionary statements, supplier information, and other information required by the responsible agency. Employers should ensure transferred or repackaged chemicals remain properly identified for workers.
