Taiwan’s EPA Update

The Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) of Taiwan is making significant changes to the county’s existing and new chemical registration.

Proposed changes to the registration include:

-Requiring a registration form for companies using new chemicals for development and research;

– The requirement that chemicals used as raw materials in industries regulated by another legislation, for example pesticides, to register under the TCSCA;

-Enforcement of standard registration for chemicals in any volume to be carcinogenic, mutagenic, or toxic to reproduction;

-Setting annual reporting requirements; and

-Standardising time limits for confidentiality protection.

The aim of these changes, is to help Taiwan come up-to-date with the current international regulatory system, reduce the administrative costs, and promote the inter-ministerial cooperation by improving the data needed for evaluation of chemical substance risk regulation.
