Brazil SDS Authoring
National Regulations Governing SDSs
The national regulation governing the use and authoring of SDSs in Brazil is standard ABNT NRB 14725:2009 (based on the GHS). The Standard has 4 parts, as follows:
- ABNT NRB 14725-1:2009 Terminology
- ABNT NRB 14725-2:2009 Hazard Classification System
- ABNT NRB 14725-3:2009 Labelling
- ABNT NRB 14725-4:2009 Safety Data Sheet or FISPQ
GHS Implementation Status
In Brazil the GHS has been implemented as of 27 February 2011.
For Pure substances: classification must be done using NBR 14725-2:2009, packing and labelling using NBR 14725-3:2009 and SDS must be authored using NBR 14725-4:2009
For Mixtures: The use of standard NRB 14725:2009 was optional until 31 May 2015. As of June 1st 2015, all mixtures had to be classified, packed and labelled in accordance with NRB 14725-2 and 3 respectively and SDS authored using NBR 14725-4:2009.
Multi – Jurisdiction SDS Options
Australian SDS’s can be combined with New Zealand regulations so that one document will be compliant in both jurisdictions. Having a single document for use in other jurisdictions should be avoided due to significant differences between systems.
