Chemical Labeling and SDS Requirements in Bulgaria
Bulgaria follows the European Union chemical framework for industrial and professional chemical supply. Substances and mixtures are classified and labelled under the EU CLP Regulation (Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008), and Safety Data Sheets are governed by REACH (Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006), including Annex II as amended by Regulation (EU) 2020/878. National authorities enforce these EU rules and may add language, workplace safety or product-specific requirements.
SDS Requirements
For Bulgaria, Safety Data Sheets must be supplied when required by REACH Article 31 and compiled according to REACH Annex II, as amended by Regulation (EU) 2020/878. The SDS should use the EU 16-section format, include exposure scenarios where required, be consistent with the CLP classification and label, and be provided in Bulgarian for products placed on the Bulgaria market.
Consumer Label Requirements
Hazardous consumer chemical products placed on the market in Bulgaria are generally labelled under the EU CLP Regulation. Labels must include the product identifier, supplier details, nominal quantity for consumer packages where required, hazard pictograms, signal word, hazard statements, precautionary statements and any required supplemental EUH statements. Product-specific EU or national regimes may apply to biocides, detergents, cosmetics, aerosols, plant protection products or toys, so consumer labels should be checked by product category.
Workplace Label Requirements
For workplace supply in Bulgaria, the outer and inner packaging of hazardous substances and mixtures must comply with CLP labelling rules. Employers must also ensure hazardous chemicals are identifiable at the workplace and that workplace containers, transfer containers and storage areas are labelled or otherwise marked in accordance with national occupational safety implementation. Workplace labels should remain consistent with the SDS and be understandable to local workers.
