In Japan the regulations covering the authoring of SDS’s fall under the National Standard JIS Z 7253:2019 (Safety Data Sheet for chemical products: Part 1 – Content and order of sections). Hazardous product classification listed on Japan Safety Data Sheets is in accordance with JIS Z 7252:2019

GHS Implementation Status

Hazardous chemicals and chemical mixtures that are used in the workplace are now expected to have SDS’s and labels prepared according to the GHS. The GHS is still only mandatory for certain hazardous chemicals. Japan revised their JIS standards in 2019 to align with Rev. 6 of UN GHS and has come into force in May 2022
