National Regulations Governing Labels:

In South Korea the regulations governing Industrial product labeling for toxic substances are found under the Toxic Chemicals Control Act (TCCA) and the Industrial Health and Safety Act (IHSA). The TCCA and IHSA classification and label criteria are based on the UN GHS, there are however a few differences between the Korean and UN standards.

Additional Regulations:

In South Korea chemicals are also regulated by the following legislative acts:

  • Atomic Energy Act
  • Agricultural Chemicals / Fertilizers / Feed Control Act(s)
  • Cosmetic Act
  • Pharmaceutical Affairs Act
  • Narcotics Control Act
  • Food Sanitation Act
  • Dangerous Material Management Act
  • High Pressure Gas Safety Control Act
  • Gun, Sword and Gunpowder Control Act

GHS Implementation Status:

The Global Harmonized System (GHS) has been implemented in Korea. Substances are currently regulated under the new legislation based on the GHS; Mixtures should be classified under new regulations by July 1, 2013.

I found the people at Nexreg very helpful when it came to addressing my Canadian product labelling needs. They were always readily available to answer questions and concerns. I’m very glad to have the Nexreg people in my corner when dealing with Canadian compliancy regulations.
