National Regulations Governing Labels:

Hungary is a member of the European Union and as such is bound by EU regulations. For pure substances, Austrian labels must be compliant with the EU’s GHS based CLP-regulation No. 1272/2008 – labels created to be compliant with Directive 67/548/EEC have expired. For mixtures, labels can be compliant with either 1272/2008 or with the previous Directive 1999/45/EC.

Additional Regulations:

Hungary is now fully compliant with EU chemical regulations. For more information on Hungary’s Chemical Act please refer here. For Hungary’s National Institute of Chemical Safety refer here to find additional information on policy and safety programs. Additional information on labeling and standards can be found on the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) website.

Please be aware that while labeling regulations for both consumer and industrial labels are the same, the concerns of industry and consumers may differ. In Hungry consumers can go to the Hungarian Authority for Consumer Protection which provides lists on banned products, relevant legislation, advice and educational materials. Businesses planning to sell their product in Hungry may find relevant information on the concerns of their stakeholders, and guidance on marketing content and activities.

GHS Implementation Status:

The EU has fully adopted GHS under their CLP Regulation (Regulation on classification, labeling and packaging of substances and mixtures). The deadline for having new Labels has passed for pure substances – it was November 30, 2010. The deadline for mixtures is May 31, 2015. Not all the building blocks in the United Nations’ Purple Book were adopted by the EU CLP regulation.

I just wanted to take a moment to say how we value the compliance service we have received from Nexreg. In the past two years our company has been faced with many challenges related to the sales of hazardous products in the US and Canada and Nexreg has been an excellent resource to help us ensure compliance to the ever changing regulatory environment.
