National Regulations Governing Labels:

In Malaysia Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 sets out the regulations regarding hazardous chemicals/substances. Based on the act the Occupational safety and Health (Classification, Packaging and Labeling of Hazardous chemicals) Regulations outline the criteria for industrial labels. Currently in Malaysia relevant government authorities are working on draft legislation based on the UN GHS 2nd version, the Malaysian Standard (MS 1804:2008). The Standard contains labeling and classification criteria, however compliance is still on a voluntary basis.

GHS Implementation Status:

Malaysia is in the process of implementing GHS, they have published voluntary guidelines MS 1804:2008 based on the second edition UN GHS. For more information on the current status of Malaysian GHS implementation please refer to the Ministry of International Trade and Industry.
