THE board of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has elected a chemical engineer, Nina Cromnier, as its new chair.

Cromnier takes up her position at ECHA (which oversees the implementation of REACH – Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals – legislation within the EU) today and will hold it for two years.

Former ECHA chair Thomas Jakl, the director of chemicals policy at Austria’s Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management, is stepping down after completing two terms in office, the maximum allowed in the organisation.
