Canada has published five risk assessment summaries in July 2016.

 

1.       1,2- cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid, 1-butyl 2- (phenylmethyl) ester

 

According to the criteria published under paragraph 64 (a) and paragraph 64 (C) of the Canadian Environmental Protection Agency (CEPA), this substance is suspected to be harmful to both the environment and human health.

 

 2.       1,2 – propanediol, – 1,2- dibenzoate

 

This substance is suspected to be harmful to human health when used in a potential application, according to paragraph 64 (C) of the CEPA.

 

3.       1,2- Benzenedicarboxylic acid, mixed C8-11-alkyl and 2-ethylhexyl and isononyl diesters

 

Under paragraph64 (a) and 64 (C) of the CEPA, this substance is harmful to both human health and the environment. It is noted under the CEPA that if the substance were released to water or used as a plasticizer in toys and childcare, risks to human health and the environment rise.

 

4.       Silicic acid, sodium salt, hydrolysis products with 1-[(substitutedmethoxy) alkul] silanetriol 

 

When this substance is used as notified, it is not expected to be harmful to human health and the environment, according to section 64 of the CEPA. However, with new activity in relation to the substance it may result in meeting the criteria of being harmful.

 

5.       Alcohols, C 12-18, ethoxylated, reaction products with 1,6- diisocyanatohexane and polyethylene-polypropylene glycol

 

If this substance is inhaled or is used in an unreacted form in consumer products, it has the potential to be harmful to human health according to the criteria under paragraph 64 (C) of the CEPA.

 

The risk assessments of new substances are conducted by Environment Canada and Health Canada. The assessments include the information on the chemical and physical properties of the substances, hazards exposure to how the substance is or may become toxic to both human health and the environment and its uses.
