The state of California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), has announced that a group of herbicides have been added to Proposition 65s (Prop 65) list of chemicals that are known to cause reproductive harm.

The herbicides are:

    • Atrazine (a herbicide that is widely used in growing both corn and sugarcane),

    • Propazine (used for sorghum crops, and is widely used in growing grapes and apples),

    • Simazine,

    • Chlorometabolites des-ethyl atrazine, and

    • Des-isopropyl atrazine.

This listing took effect on July 15, 2016, with warning requirements to take effect one year later.

California’s Prop 65 prohibits businesses from knowingly exposing California consumers to chemicals that are known to cause cancer and reproductive harm without providing warning.
