Recent article: India : Seminar discusses perils and opportunities of REACH. There is not too much in there that is not in the other introductory articles on REACH that we have posted, but it does contain this useful reminder:

‘REACH’ is the new European Union’s Chemical Regulatory Legislation, which has come into force from June 01, 2007, under which it is expected that substances, preparations or articles placed in the EU market, only after the manufacturer / importer has knowledge about the full impact on “Human Health and The Environment” (The key objectives of the legislation).

The manufacturers have to also assure the EU Member States and Chemical Agency established at Helsinki, Finland that, downstream risk arising through exposure of the hazardous substance has been contained. It can also be said that ‘No safety data, No EU market.

In terms of registration deadlines, the ‘Pre-registration’ is to be done between 1st June – 2008 to 30th November – 2008 and if this condition of pre-registration is not complied it will not be possible to make exports to Europe for next 11 years.
