REACH EU

The second five-year evaluation of REACH has been delayed three months.

REACH, the European Unions Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals, evaluation has been delayed three months, due to the workload and time issues. It is now expected to be complete in January 2018.

This is the last review before the 2018 registration deadline and is of great significance because it marks the ten-year anniversary of REACH. The review is being carried out by the EU’s Better Regulation Agenda, which considers all criteria such as effectiveness and efficiency.

In an online public consultation, which was run between October 2016 and Jan 28, 2017, had 455 comments from NGOs, member states and industry associations. Many Stakeholders found that there were gaps and inefficiencies concerning articles containing substance that were imported from non-EU countries.

A report on the parallel review on the regulatory fitness of the EU chemicals legislation is expected to be published by the middle of 2018.
