As of June 1, 2017, all chemical products that are on the market must be labelled in accordance with the Classification, Labelling, and Packaging (CLP) Regulation.

The CLP Regulation is now the ONLY legislation that applies in the classification and labelling of both substances and mixtures. Companies now must classify, label and package their hazardous chemicals before placing them on the market. If companies still have products on the shelves, that follow the previous requirements, the products must be taken off the shelves and be re-classified and re-labelled.

The purpose of the CLP is to ensure that there is a high level of protection for both health and the environment, as well as being based on the Globally Harmonized System (GHS).
