The US state of New York is set to be the first state in the country to require manufacturers of cleaning products to publicly disclose ingredients.

New York State is introducing the Household Cleaning Product Information Disclosure programme under a 47-year-old state law.  Earlier this week, the Department of Environment Conservation, has released a drat certification form and guidance document for public consultation earlier this week.

The cleaning products required for public disclosure include soaps and detergents used for cleaning fabrics, dishes, etc. Manufacturers will be required to disclose on their website a list of all ingredients used, including those presented in trace quantities, and the ingredients will need to be listed in descending order of quantity.
