New IT-tool called ePIC: a new IT-tool for exporters and importers of certain hazardous chemicals
This news update discussing a New IT-tool called ePIC is brought to you by ECHA.
ECHA has today launched a new IT-tool called ePIC, which has been developed to ensure that the requirements under the revised PIC Regulation are supported by a comprehensive IT system.
The new IT-tool has three independent interfaces. The first is dedicated to industry users, the second to authority users (ECHA, designated national authorities and the European Commission) and the third is for customs officers. ePIC allows information to be securely exchanged between industry users, authority users and customs users and supports all authorities in the European Union to play their roles in managing and monitoring the export and import of the hazardous chemicals listed in Annex I to the regulation.
The IT tool has been developed in close cooperation with representatives from the Commission, the Member States and industry and further streamlines the notification process and the management of follow-up actions.
The old EDEXIM system will be shut down by the end of 2014. The information currently available on the public interface of EDEXIM, such as statistics and reports on exports and imports of certain hazardous chemicals, will be available on ECHA’s website by the end of September.
The PIC Regulation administers the import and export of certain hazardous chemicals and places obligations on companies who wish to export these chemicals to non-EU countries. It implements, within the European Union, the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade.
