Laos chemical update

A law for the management of chemical substances has been approved in Laos.

The National Assembly of Laos proposed a law the management of chemicals in a session in late 2016. The text has had a lot of criticism the last few months, as many believe that the proposal would not put a stop to the unregulated use of dangerous substances.

Many of the Assembly members asked if the draft could be clearer and have more detailed descriptions of the characteristics of specific chemical substances.

The Globally Harmonized System of classification and labelling of chemicals (GHS) has not yet been implemented in Laos, however, this proposal is expected to follow the law.
